New Shelter - 10.6 Acre Land Donation
PAWS Shelter for Animals & Humane Society has been the recipient of a 10.6 acre land donation in Dripping Springs, courtesy of benefactor Shirley M. Alexander. The property is located on FM 165 and is to be used for the purpose of building a second facility for the care and adoption of stray and abandoned animals.
As the Austin metropolitan population has grown, so has the number of stray and abandoned animals. The one acre site owned by PAWS in Kyle cannot be expanded to service the growth anticipated over the next 10 years. With the 10.6 acre endowment, PAWS will eventually be able to accommodate more companion animals as well as shelter neglected horses and livestock. "I am grateful to PAWS," says Dr. Alexander, "for who and what they are, and wish them every success in this next stage of their great work."
Dr. Alexander, a long time resident of Dripping Springs and retired Professor of Art History at the University of Texas at Austin, has devoted a great deal of her time and resources to animal rescue. She single handedly runs her own cat sanctuary in her rural neighborhood, making sure each new stray is neutered or spayed, has food and water, and a warm spot for the winter.
