A Message of Gratitude and Growth from PAWS Shelter

We are so grateful to be part of a community that has always provided support for the animals in our care and today, we want to share some exciting news about the future of PAWS.

Several years ago, PAWS was blessed with a truly remarkable gift: thirty nine acres of Hill Country property where our Dripping Springs shelter is located. The shelter uses ten of these acres and the remaining twenty-nine acres is comprised of twenty-three acres of dog trails and natural beauty that anyone who has walked a dog there is well aware of. On the back end of this thirty-nine acres is a beautiful five acre property, complete with a historic home.

PAWS is so grateful for the act of generosity that allowed us to acquire and manage this land and has strived to use this gift in the most responsible and effective ways to positively impact the animals in our care.

After thoughtful reflection and careful planning, the Board of Directors has made an exciting and forward looking decision to offer this five acre property for sale in order to directly fuel PAWS’ lifesaving work for generations to come. By transitioning this land into dedicated financial resources for the shelter, we are able to multiply the impact of this original gift in ways that will be felt by every animal who walks through our doors.

The proceeds will be invested directly into PAWS’ capital fund, building a stronger and more resilient foundation that ensures we can keep doing what we love most: rescuing dogs and cats and finding them the loving homes they deserve. This is a meaningful step forward toward efficiently using our resources, creating excess funds for future investment and growth, and strengthening our ability to support the mission for years to come.

We believe deeply in honoring every gift entrusted to us by putting it to its highest and best use for the animals. This decision reflects exactly that commitment and it fills us with renewed energy and optimism for what lies ahead.

PAWS is growing, and it is because of you. Thank you for believing in this mission alongside us.

Texas Longhorns football players are giving back to the community ahead of Valentine’s Day by participating in the “Puppy Love” fundraiser, benefiting PAWS Shelter of Central Texas. The event will take place on Feb. 13 from noon to 3 p.m. at Victory Lap, a popular West Campus spot near the University of Texas.

Lailah Licon, volunteer event coordinator, said hosting the event in West Campus was a strategic choice to increase student engagement.

“As a UT student, I thought West Campus was the best place to host this because I’m trying to get more student awareness to get volunteers for the shelter,” Licon said. “The involvement of UT students has been crucial in making this event a success.” Licon, who works in marketing with UT and NFL players, said she saw the Texas football players as natural partners for the event.

For head coach Steve Sarkisian, community involvement is an extension of the team’s discipline and culture. The core of discipline on the field is discipline off the field — in the classroom, in community service, in the football complex.

“So if you want to be a disciplined football team when you take the field each weekend, you have to be disciplined when you are off the field. How are we in school? How are we in community service? All of it all adds up to that becomes your culture because that is who you are and that is how we go about every day life.”
